Practical guide
Design for 3D Printing
Plan geometry, orientation and approval samples around the features that matter in use.
Identify the important features
Mark the surfaces people see, the interfaces that must fit and any features that move or carry a load. Define an observable acceptance check for each. This makes the prototype review more useful than a general request for a good-looking print.
Review the model in the slicer
Inspect the proposed orientation, supports and layer preview with printer and material guidance beside you. Check whether the important surfaces and interfaces can be assessed in the planned print. Save model and profile revisions together.
Test uncertain features first
Prepare a representative sample of a fit, wall, opening or surface before committing to a larger print. Use the intended material and setup. Keep the result with the model revision so a later geometry change triggers the right recheck.
Document the approval decision
Record the approved model, orientation, material, color and inspection result. Distinguish appearance approval from functional approval. Keep open questions visible when requesting samples or production support.
